The Fiji Council of Social Services has recommended that provisions for free medical services be made under the Fiji National Provident Funds pensions’ scheme.
The Council made the recommendation in its submission on the review of the FNPF Act which is now underway.
FCOSS Executive Director Hassan Khan revealed that they have also recommended that General Practitioners charge half price for services rendered to those under the FNPF Pension scheme.
He also said that there is also a need for detailed study on the social and economic condition of the elderly citizens of Fiji.
Meanwhile, the FNPF is working with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise to undertake phase one of the review process with the over-arching theme of repositioning the FNPF in the next decade. The submissions close tomorrow and a preliminary report is expected to be submitted later this month.
