The Fiji College of General Practitioners and the Health Ministry will work together to see that more private doctors can provide services at the government hospitals during the week.
Ministry's Spokesperson Iliesa Tora said they have spoken to the FCGP and have received a positive response.
He said these private doctors will be paid by the government.
The step has been taken in an effort to tackle the problem of doctor shortage in the country.
The Ministry has told the Fiji School of Medicine to increase its intake by 20% this year and continue the process for the next three years, gradually increasing the number of intakes.
Tora said they are also increasing the bonding period to 7 years.
