FBWI Stands By Its Commitment
Spokesperson Jay Dayal said even given the very difficult current economic climate, the FBWI stood by its commitment to work with the Interim Government to find a mutually agreeable solution to the water tax issue.
Dayal said they appreciate that Government similarly stood by its agreement with them, and they hope that the coming year will result in an even more productive relationship between the bottled water Industry and Government.
The Interim government targets to collect around $1.5 million from the water resource tax which will be in from January 1st next year.
FIRCA CEO Jitoko Tikolevu said this will only apply to those companies who extract mineral water.
Meanwhile, the water resource tax will see anyone extracting under 5million liters of water per month 0.11 cents per litre, over 5 million but under 10 million will be charged 0.22cents per litre, and 10million litres above will be charged 0.33 cents per litre.
