FASANOC Thanks Interim Govt For Support
But Maharaj also said the $420,000 allocation falls short of Fasanoc's request and they will now have to revisit their plans.
He said Fasanoc's request for Cook Islands Mini Pacific Games had been $500k for preparation and $603K for participation.
Maharaj said they will now have to reduce the number of athletes. The initial plan was to send 252 athletes to Cook Islands and now they might send around 200 athletes or below. This could impact some team sports, as well as individual sports.
Meanwhile the Interim Government in the 2009 National Budget allocated $200,000 for the Rural Sporting Facilities, $100,000 for overseas tour, $50,000 for Sports Scholarship, $100,000 for Sports Outreach Programme and $120,000 for Hosting International events.
Most of the sporting organisations that are planning for overseas tour or hosting any International meet in Fiji will have to put their request through Ministry of Youth and Sports for their allocation.
