Former Member of Parliament Ponipate Lesavua has sent a plea to the relevant authorities to extend the start of the first term of the school year in the affected areas to February.
Lesavua said authorities should think of those children whose parents have lost everything in the flooding and those who may have already bought school items but lost them during the natural disaster.
He said people should realize how seriously thousands of people have been affected by the flooding.
Lesavua added that added to this a lot of schools are used as evacuation centres and school children all over Fiji have been affected one way or the other.
Also some teachers are stranded in areas where they spent Christmas and New Year.
