The US Government's Foreign Trade Division announced that Fiji's total export to the USA in 2008 was US$161.79 million, an increase of 6 percent over 2007.

Trade Commissioner Ilisoni Vuidreketi said they are excited to note these annual increases particularly at a time when US wholesale importers and retail buyers, are experiencing the worst business conditions in 27 years as the US economy experienced its worse recession.

Vuidreketi said Fiji's top five exports to the USA in 2008 were, Mineral Water, Tuna Loins, Fish (fresh and frozen), Timber (Mahogany), Natural oils and perfumery.

He added in comparison, exports in 2008 to our traditional markets of Australia and New Zealand were US$94.6 million and $US$37.4 million respectively, reconfirming that the USA is Fiji's top and most important export market.

Major declines recorded for 2008 were for Sugar and sugar products, Taro, cassava and agro produce.
