The government will continue the implementation of the national export strategy program spearheaded by the private sector to address the widening gap between exports and imports and to boost foreign earnings.
These were the words of the interim Tourism and Trade Minister Tom Ricketts while launching the FTIB 2008 Exporter of the Year Awards.
Ricketts said exports have been performing below potential and the interim government has earmarked various programmes and is formulating policies to boost exports.
He added that Fiji should look into expanding its trade network and trade relations with other countries other than its traditional trade partners.
He believed that Fiji had an abundance of natural resources which could be used by the exporters and resource owners to produce exportable products adding that one should not only rely on the export of products but the export of services is a promising sub sector which cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, the theme for this year's exporter of the year awards is Exports Enhancement: The Path to Economic Growth.
