First it was our doctors and nurses and other professionals, now Fiji could see an exodus of qualified teachers for greener pastures in Australia.

An Australian based teacher recruiting agency called Smart Teachers is in consultation with the Fijian Teachers Association after several teachers showed interest to work in Australia.

The positions being offered by the agency are generally to cater for remote and isolated areas in Western Australia with incentives of up to AU$15,000 being offered to those who take up the job on top of their annual salary.

The positions are being offered to experienced teachers and it has been confirmed that some recently retired teachers are also keen to continue their career abroad.

Australian authorities have been battling to find solutions to send qualified teachers to teach in remote locations in Western Australia and Fiji could just be the solution.

FTA general secretary Maika Namudu said the package offered is very attractive for teachers in Fiji and they are encouraging them to apply.
