Existence of assassination plan questioned
During cross examination, Naco asked Kedreli to clarify reasons for his assisting his cousin Lance Corporal Peniasi Kuli, to which Kedreli replied that his role was to get information for the recovery of the weapons that had gone missing from Parliament in 2000.
The High Court had earlier heard that Keidreli who was working as a carpenter in September, 2007 was approached by Lance Corporal Peniasi Kuli, seeking his help to uncover a plan laid out by former CRW soldiers: Feoko Gadekibau, Sivaniolo Naulago and Barbados Mills.
However when questioned by Naco, Kedreli admitted that he had not been successful in getting information about the weapons and that he did not know what weapons to search for, as he was not given a list of the missing weapons by Kuli, and that he had no prior knowledge as to the make and type of weapons that were missing.
Meanwhile, when shown Court exhibits of photographs of their training ground in Wailase where the group had supposedly gone to train before they carried out their assassination plan in 2007, Keidreli admitted in the High Court that he was not able to clearly recall the exact place as it had happened a long time ago.
Kedreli said that all he remembers is that the place where they had trained in Wailase was about 100 meters from the road and they had to follow a trek before they got to level ground.
However, Naco then asked Kedreli if there was really a training camp as the places indicated by Kedreli in the photograph was actually a slopy area and there was a cliff at the end.
Naco also added that there was no way people could walk any futher because of the cliff and a creek, to which Kedireli replied that he could not recall, as the last time he had seen the place was a long time ago.
Naco then posed the possiblity that Keidreli and Lance Corporal Peniasi Kuli had come up with the allegations of an assassination plot against Commodore Bainimarama and others, as there was no way of finding the missing weapons, Kedreli said that he stood by his earlier statements, adding that there was indeed a plan to assassinate the Prime Minister and others and that he was not lying.
The matter has been adjourned to next week Monday where cross examination will continue.
The eight accused persons charged with conspiracy to murder Commodore Bainimarama, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Mahendra Chaudhry are Naitasiri high chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, Feoko Gadekibau, Barbados Mills, Siva-niolo Naulago, Metuisela Mua, Eparama Waqatairewa, Kaminieli Vosavere and Pauliasi Ramulo.
