Exhibit money missing
That is the defense of Investigating Police officer, Inspector Koliniyasi Seru Savou with regards to a case where a police officer is alleged to have stolen over $22,000 from the Police exhibit room at the Central Police Station in Suva.
It is alleged that between January 7th 2003 to January 29th 2009, the accused, Satya Nand stole the money which was recovered by police in an ATM robbery.
Inspector Savou made this revelation during cross examination by Nand's lawyer, Mehboob Raza, who asked why Police did not think to carry out internal investigations as well as carry out forensic studies on the exhibit room at CPS.
He told the Court the decision was made not to analyse the exhibit room, as an investigation would render all other evidence in the room worthless and be thrown out of court.
The $22,000 was later found hidden behind some boxes in the exhibit room at CPS.
Nand has been charged with Larceny by servant, attempted larceny and forgery.
The matter was heard before Judge Justice Salesi Temo and a ruling is expected to be delivered this afternoon.
