External Examinations alone do not cause school kids to drop out of school.

Interim Education Minister Filipe Bole said that the 2008 research conducted at the Nabua Matua Program shows that kids dropout because of truancy, peer pressure, lack of interest, health reasons, no money, to work in order to assist family, family problems or death of a parent while some left to study at post secondary institutions whereas others attributed their departure to the 2000 coup.

He said to stop school children dropping out the Ministry has strategies like compulsory education which includes the provision of grants, as well as providing outboard motors to ferry children to school in case of transport problems.
