The Education Ministry will save more than $715,000 after the abolishment of the three external examinations from the school curriculum.
Education Minister Filipe Bole said a plan is in place to better utilize this money which will mainly be for improving school infrastructure.
Bole added the decision to pull out three external examinations from the school curriculum has required a lot of work.
According to Bole, the reason why the Fiji Intermediate, Fiji Eighth Year and Fiji Junior Certificate Examinations will be phased out one after another is because they will have to see that all work on preparing internal assessments for students is finalized first.
Bole added the schools, parents, students and the Ministry will need time to prepare for the changes, and pulling out all examinations at once would not have been a good decision.
The Fiji Intermediate Examination will be abolished next year while Fiji Eighth Year and Fiji Junior Examination will be abolished in 2011.
