DISMAC has raised serious concerns over the exaggerated reports being given to overseas media outlets regarding the situation on the ground in the cyclone affected areas.
Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui said such reports are not assisting the efforts to help those in need and it does not go down well with donor agencies who are standing by to assist.
Dobui said such reports are discrediting the hard work done by the various agencies in assisting the people.
Meanwhile, Dobui also confirmed that they are now trying to verify reports that 300 families have been left completely homeless after their houses were destroyed by cyclone Tomas.
He said the true extent of damages and those in need of permanent shelter is yet to be ascertained.
