As the Commerce Commission continues to receive oral submissions from the public about the review of the FEA tariff rates, one of the main concerns raised is the estimation of customer’s bills.
Commissioner Leba Mataitini said this is a common issue that has been raised at the public forums about electricity bills which some claimed were too high, especially since most had taken on board the advice from FEA and cut down their power consumption.
Mataitini added people were upset by the fact that they were trying their best to cut down consumption yet it did not reflect on their monthly bills.
Meanwhile seven people turned up to give their submissions at the Civic Centre last night from 4pm to 7pm.
A Deuba resident, Derrick Wadnan said when a cooperation or business cannot sell its product with a profit, the question will be asked why?
Wadnan made a recommendation that FEA reduce some of its staff salary.
Vinal Kumar from Flour Mills of Fiji said the big industries are feeling the pinch of the new tariff.
Another member of the public, Abdul Nand of Suva said he does not have permanent employment and he has told his family to cut down on watching television.
He said if there is to be another increase to the FEA tariffs he has told his family they will utilise candles.
The team will be in the Savusavu tomorrow from 10am to 1pm at the Provincial Conference Room, before moving onto Labasa on Friday at the Labasa Civic Centre.
