Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama said equal distribution of the land lease money for all members of the i-taukei land owning units will continue.

Bainimarama made this clear in parliament yesterday after Opposition parliamentarian, Viliame Gavoka raised the question if adequate provisions have been made in the government’s equal distribution of lease money system for the Turaga ni Yavusa and Turaga ni Mataqali because of their traditional roles and obligations in the vanua.

Opposition MP, Tupou Draunidalo then raised the issue on whether the Prime Minister understands the unequal distribution of obligations in the vanua.

Speaker, Doctor Jiko Luveni asked Draunidalo to re-word the question.

Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula then said that the distribution should be based according to customs and traditions.

Bainimarama said the government changed the lease system to equal distribution because it has the legal authority to do this.
