It will be a battle between Jamaica and USA in the men’s 100 metres Olympics finals this morning.

Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake of Jamaica have made it to the final while America has Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin and Ryan Bailey are in the race.

Gatlin recorded the fastest time in the semifinals this morning with 9.82 seconds, Blake ran in a time of 9.85 seconds while Bolt cruised through in a time of 9.87 seconds to win the second semifinal. 

Gatlin came in first in the first semi while Asafa Powell came in second clocking a time of 9.94 seconds.

The final will be held at 8:50am today.

Meanwhile, last night saw the exit of arguably the greatest Olympian in history as Michael Phelps bowed out of the sport having collected 18 gold medals and 22 overall.

Michael Phelps was presented with an International Swimming Federation lifetime achievement award at London 2012.

The 27-year-old started his Olympic Swimming career as a 15-year-old in Sydney in 2000, where the youngster was fifth in the 200m Butterfly.

Six gold and two bronze medals followed in Athens four years later before his historic eight gold medals in Beijing in 2008.

China is leading the medal tally with 30 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze, USA is second with 27 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze while Great Britain is third with 16 gold ,10 silver and 10 bronze.
