In an effort to curb pollution, the Environment Department will continue with the issuance of their non-compliance notices to business houses.

Director for Environment Epeli Nasome said this is part of the Operation Compliance Day, whereby officers from the department are visiting all business operators and issuing the notices whereby a two week period is given to them to apply for a permit allowing them to dispose of whatever waste they may have.

Nasome added this is all part of the Environment Pollution Act which came into effect in January this year and they business operators who they find are not complying with the law, could face a fine of up to $250,000 depending on the seriousness of the offence.

He said after completing the Suva area, they then will move onto other centres in the upcoming weeks.
