Farmers in the Outer Islands have been urged to provide assistance to the 35 enumerators of the Agriculture Ministry who are currently trying to collect farm data.

The Senior Agriculture Officer Lomaiviti Peni Rika said that the enumerators have started work in the Lomaiviti Province beginning in Ovalau this week which is expected to take two weeks.

He said that the enumerators have been divided in four groups and most of the farmers that will be interviewed will have yaqona and dalo production as their main source of income.

Rika is calling on farmers to provide the enumerators with information regarding their crops, farm practices, livestock, machinery, building, employment, land use and other farm related issues.

Data collected will also be used to gauge the status of food security, farming systems, crop and livelihood productions in the country.
