England rugby league coach Steve McNamara said he was left to wonder what might have been the reason for their 28-20 defeat by Australia in the opening game of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

England led 10-nil but could not hold on and has now lost their last seven matches against the Kangaroos.

He said there are a lot of positives but there is a real sense of frustration that they did not finish the job.

In another match played this morning, Italy beat Wales 32-16.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji Bati is pooled with Australia, England and Ireland and will take on Ireland in their first pool game at 9am on Tuesday.

In tomorrow's matches, Papua New Guinea will play France at 5am while New Zealand will meet Samoa at 7am.
