England is the new Cape Town 7s champion after they beat South Africa 19-17 in the final this morning.

England have not won a tournament since Tokyo in 2015.

It was a tense start after a loose pass from them that led to South Africa's first try from Chris Dry.

Later on Cecil Afrika loses his footing and England's powerful number one Richard de Carpentier crossed over to the line.

The English team continued to spread the ball and Dan Norton bursts into space on the right to put them into the lead.

As South Africa continued their pressure, a dream pass by Tom Mitchell out to the left gave Ruaridh McConnochie a chance to score the winning try.

Captain Tom Mitchell puts a huge conversion between the posts to upset the hosts.

Meanwhile the Vodafone Fiji 7s team finished at fifth place after defeating Kenya 33-21.

Fiji's tries was scored by Nemani Nagusa, Jerry Tuwai, Sevuloni Moceinacagi, Josua Vici and Kalione Nasoko.

Fiji earlier lost to England 26-31 in the quarterfinals.

The national side then went on to beat USA 28-12 in the semifinals.

New Zealand finished with the Bronze medal after defeating Scotland 24-19.

The next World Sevens Series leg will be the Wellington 7s on the 28th and 29th of next month.

Looking at the series points table, South Africa still leads with 41 points, England is second with 39 points while Fiji sits at third place at 32 points.
