A 49 year old Engineer will spend Christmas in jail.

Iniasi Nauwa was sentenced to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his defector wife.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Tito Daurewa said the couple was returning home after a cocktail party in June when the accuser’s phone rang and the defector wife saw the number of another woman.

The two had an argument and Naua punched the wife causing her to fall on the footpath and lose consciousness for about five minutes.

The court heard the two then went to a hotel and Nauwa told her to iron his clothes but the victim refused.

Nauwa then took the iron and burned her thighs.

Magistrate Eparama Rokoika said an assault offence with a weapon requires a custodial sentence especially when a hot iron is used in this case.
