The Fiji Employers Federation has welcomed the move made by the government to postpone the public holiday for National youth day set for next Monday.

Chief Executive Officer, Nesbitt Hazelman said Fiji has already lost too many days to public holiday which also has an effect on the productivity, revenue and increases the cost of doing business.

Hazelman also said that National Youth Day should be celebrated together with Fiji Day in October and with school hours now, national holidays will bring in pressure on the school system.

Meanwhile despite the announcement that the National Youth day public Holiday is a working day, the Youth Ministry's coordinator for National Youth day celebrations William Naisara said that they have taken into account the need to recover lost hours of productivity.

However, Naisara said, celebrations will be postponed but they will be focusing on rehabilitation as a new theme, in light of the devastating effects of Hurricane Tomas.
