Good relations between Fiji and the United States of America took another step when families of the Fiji Embassy in Washington led by Charge d' Affares Peni Lomaloma donated money partly raised by embassy staff to provide 6,000 meals for the hungry people in the Washington area.

The Fiji Embassy staff and their families volunteered at the Capital Area Food Bank, helped pack 5,000 pounds of food for distribution to the 700 member agencies.

A statement from the embassy states that 633,000 residents in the Metropolitan area are experiencing hunger, while the poverty rate for school children aged 5-17 in the District of Columbia, is 51.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Lomaloma while handing the cheque of $2,000, adds that at this time of celebration and merriment it is important that we take time to remember the less fortunate who may be going hungry during this time of feasting.
