Electronic voter registration will save a lot of taxpayers’ money.

Electoral Commission Chairman M.K. Sahu Khan told Fijivillage that house-to-house voter registration is expected to cost over $12M.

Khan said in a workshop earlier this year, the authorities from Samoa proposed that electronic voter registration be carried out which is simpler and much cheaper.

He added the commission is still considering the proposal.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice is confident that voter registration for the next general elections will be done using the electronic voter registration system.

Permanent Secretary for Justice Pio Tikoduadua confirmed to Fijivillage that the electronic voter registration equipment is being sourced from donor countries.
