Ethnic groups will be pitted against each other if we do not go ahead with the Electoral Reform.

Speaking at the 9th Attorney General's Conference in Sigatoka this morning, Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama stressed that the move to have a common name for everyone in the country will ensure that there is a smooth running of the upcoming 2009 elections.

Bainimarama says voting along ethnic lines will only widen the gap between the races in the country and those who are opposing the move are lazy.

And following calls for the independence and transparency of the Judicial system, Bainimarama also told those in attendance that the public needs neutral and trustworthy lawyers and judges.

He says that lawyers are paid to do their job and should provide a good service and he goes on to say, that if it was up to him, he would put them through military training to be able to do so.

The Deputy Director for FICAC George Langman in addressing the AG's Conference said that corrupt civil servants are the very ones who are not assisting FICAC.

Meanwhile, High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem believes that our cultural obligations and respect for authority continues to stand in the way of fighting corruption effectively in Fiji.

The 9th Attorney General's conference continues this afternoon at the Fijian Resort.
