Fiji Labour Party (FLP) leader Mahendra Chaudhry stressed the need for electoral changes as he addressed some 40 residents of Nasinu during the FLP consultations on the draft People’s Charter last night.
While highlighting the contents of the draft Charter, Chaudhry also questioned why our Pacific neighbours are opposing changes to the electoral system when they themselves would never accept such a system.
However, when questioned by a member of the public whether the FLP fully supports the proposed electoral changes, Chaudhry said it is something the party will decide upon at the FLP National Council meeting.
Another member of the public asked him how the proposed electoral and constitutional changes will be brought about legitimately without a parliament, Chaudhry answered that consensus amongst the political parties can find a way.
He told those in attendance to think about these issues before deciding for themselves what should be in the final People’s Charter and what needs to be removed from the draft.
