The Draft People's Charter does not say for electoral reform to be implemented without parliamentary approval.
These are the words of National Council for Building a Better Fiji member and Citizens' Constitutional Forum Chief Executive Reverend Akuila Yabaki, on Pillar 1 of the Draft Charter which deals with ensuring sustainable democracy and good and just governance.
Yabaki said the issue could be discussed in the upcoming political Forum with a possible solution in sight.
Pillar 1 of the Draft People's Charter aims to reform the Electoral System through the abolishment of the communal representation system, and put in place the Open List Proportional Representation Electoral System, remove the mandatory power sharing arrangement, reduce the voting age, abolish compulsory voting and put in place anti-discrimination measures into Fiji's electoral laws.
