The National Federation Party believes that the representatives of the Indian community in parliament may decrease if any changes are made to the electoral system as proposed by the chairman of the Electoral Commission.
General Secretary, Pramod Rae said the Electoral Commission should be independent and not engage in political decisions as decisions to make changes to the Electoral System can only be done by representatives in parliament. Rae said any changes will not be in favor of the minority communities in Fiji.
He said the commission chairman should not use the NFP's name as an excuse to support his claim that changes to the electoral system is necessary.
Commission Chairman, M.R. Khan highlighted yesterday that due to the alternative voting system the National Federation Party failed to win any seats in parliament in the last three general elections.
