The Electoral Commission said elections will be held at the first opportune moment in 2009 which will most probably be during a school break.
Although Chairman M.R Khan said it is likely elections may be shifted and held during a school break, he did not reveal the exact time period.
Meanwhile, former Supervisor of Elections, Semesa Karavaki said elections cannot be held in March as announced by Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama because there is no school break scheduled for that month, as all previous elections were held during the school holidays.
Karavaki said it's possible to hold elections in December this year or January next year, if the interim government is really committed to have the polls.
Karavaki said he cannot see any commitment by the Interim Government like the work that should be carried out by the Boundaries Commission.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has reiterated the elections will be held in 2009 but the People's Charter will be put in place first.
