Former National Alliance Party candidate Charan Jeet Singh has told the Fiji Human Rights Commission's Elections Inquiry Team that the 2006 general election was free and fair.
While making submissions in Labasa, Singh told the committee that candidates followed the entire process very closely and know that there were no sinister attempts to influence the outcome.
Singh also recommended that the system used in Bangladesh be adopted, where parliament is dissolved ahead of the elections to ensure all candidates are independent of government and an interim administration takes over until elections are over.
The Elections Inquiry Team will be in Seaqaqa this morning.
