The Elections office is asking for flexibility from the Interim Government when the Budget is announced today, hoping to be provided with adequate funds to carry out their constitutional mandate.
Supervisor of Elections Felicity Heffernan has asked for over $20 million. She adds that people should not consider this substantial request as an indication that an election date has been set.
Heffernan reiterated that it's important to note that a voting system has to be put in place first.
Heffernan says the request for funding is based on the International Electoral Cycle that every Electoral Management Body in the world uses to do election preparation.
