The electoral commission is the right authority to be setting a timeline for the election and not the Interim Prime Minister.

Fiji Womens Crisis Centre Co-ordinator, Shameema Ali said Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama's promise to the international community that elections will be held in 2009, was misleading.

This follows comments by the Chairman of Electoral commission, M.R Khan saying this is highly unlikely to take place, as the Boundaries Commission and the Bureau of Statistics have not come back to them with the necessary reports.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission will ensure that every voter gets the right to vote in the next general elections.

Chairman M.R Khan said many voters were turned away from polling stations as their names did not appear in the electrol roll and they were denied the right to vote in the 2006 elections.

He added that before the next elections, voters will be given ample time to go through the rolls.
