There are strong indications that some exporters from Fiji will once again be given the green light by the European Union to export fish to the European market.
The EU conducted an investigation on the fishing operators in the country last month to determine whether they meet the EU rules and regulations and handed the report to government for action.
Permanent secretary for fisheries Commander Viliame Naupoto said the EU made seven recommendations on its findings and steps are being taken to fulfill the requirements.
The Health Ministry's Food Unit and Competent Unit is working with stakeholders on the ground to ensure the facilities are upgraded and meet the hygiene standards required by the EU.
Naupoto is confident that the EU will soon give the all clear for fish exports into the European market.
The EU revealed that preliminary results indicate that the public sector bodies passed the investigation whereas the private sector operators still have some improvements to make to reach the EU compliance regulations.
