Education vital for children
That is the stand of two self employed mothers of Savusavu who struggle daily to ensure that their children get the best education.
Mother of three, Esther Malani whose two older daughters are in primary school, sells roti parcels in the town and at the jetty, just to make sure that the next morning her girls have lunch and books.
She adds that Government has helped a lot through the free bus fare and free text-book programs, as she now has money to buy food and clothes for the family.
Malani said even though her husband does odd jobs, life is hard, adding that she gets up very early every morning to make 30 roti parcels and then struggles to sell them.
Fijivillage also spoke to Vakamau Rabesa who does flower arrangements in business houses and some hotels in Savusavu Town and she reveals that the job and sacrifice saw her eldest child graduate from USP.
Rabesa recalls the day when the only food in her house would be coconut and she would use the old uniforms from her neighbors to make a new one for her son.
Rabesa still does flower arrangements and sewing as her two sons are schooling in Suva while her daughter does foundation studies at USP.
