The Ministry of Education is aware of the incident whereby a 46 year old Primary school teacher of Labasa allegedly defiled a class eight student.

Education Minister, Filipe Bole said they have been informed about the alleged incident however the Ministry will not make a comment as they have forwarded the matter to Police.

It has been confirmed that the Ministry of Education has suspended the teacher.

Police confirm the teacher is alleged to have defiled the girl in his vehicle for a number of times, as well as at the girl's residence when the parents were away at work.

Earlier this month, the girl reported the matter to the Head teacher of the school, who then informed the parents and the Education office.

This is the second case of alleged defilement in a week from the Northern Division. The first being where a 48 year old school Principal appeared in the Labasa Magistrate Court on Monday last week facing charges of indecent assault of eight secondary school students.

Assistant Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said this incident should be taken as a wakeup call for all parents.
