Fiji has a lot of young potential but what is needed is balance.

That is the sentiment of Dave O'Connor who runs a sporting Center in Lautoka where students from around the Pacific attend school but at the same time pursue their dreams in sports.

O'Connor said that it is known that many young people involved in sports tend to give second best to their school work but stressed that education can open many doors of opportunity.

The Centre formerly known as the "Doctor Robin Mitchell Centre" has seen over 19 students in the past three years get scholarships to attend the New Mexico military university in the US, with some who have gone on to achieve their Degrees and also become known for their sport.

At the moment, five students 2 from the Solomon Islands, 2 from Fiji and one from the Federated States of Micronesia are headed to the New Mexico University.

One of the students leaving for the University, Agatha Gibblin of Lautoka said through the Centre she is now able to study aeronautic engineering and also continue with her love of volleyball.
