The Ministry of Education has ordered the de-establishment of the Freebird Institute in Namaka and closure of its operations in Lautoka.

Minister for Education Minister Filipe Bole said the institution has until the end of Term 2 to adhere to the directive.

Bole said the school is currently located in the same premises as Namaka Public School and this is unacceptable because the safety of school children can be compromised.

He said if the school wishes to continue operations in Fiji it needs to establish its own school and be registered in accordance with existing laws of schools in Fiji.

Freebird Institute caters for mature students.

Bole said the Ministry of Education encourages the management to build and register a separate institution.

According to Bole the ruling applies to any party that intends to set up a similar educational venture in Fiji.
