The Ministry of Education has sought the assistance of the Fiji National University to develop a local Chinese curriculum that will assist the community and the economy as whole.

Education Minister Filipe Bole said the trade and economic link between Fiji and China is growing and the government recognises their contribution to Fiji.

Bole said at the moment vernaculars taught at schools are Fijian, Hindi,Urdu, French and Rotuma and though Fiji has Chinese-run schools, these schools have been organising their own curriculum and examinations.

He added that developing local Chinese curriculum will be an investment for the country and an opportunity for Fiji students to pursue a career in Chinese language and communication with China will be easier.
