Education and awareness is the key factor through which the suicide rate in the country can be brought down.

The coordinator of Partners in Community Development, Margaret Logavatu said every year more than 200 people attempt committing suicide and one third out of this figure are successful.

She said more Indo-Fijian males in the country are committing suicide compared to females and they are still trying to ascertain the reason. She said suicide is seen as a stigma in the society which should go away.
