Eduacation more accessible
Minister Filipe Bole said over the past few years many children enrolling in class one dropped out before reaching class seven while others dropped out while progressing to upper classes.
Bole said twenty years ago, 92 percent of six year olds were enrolled in primary schools and only 44 percent enrolled at secondary level.
However, this changed in 2008 and 96 percent enrolled in primary school while secondary school enrolment increased to 79 percent
The net enrolment rate of males in primary school increased to 95.3 percent in 2008 compared to 94.9 percent in 2000 while female enrolment increased to 96.3 percent from 94.6 for the same period.
At secondary level, there was an increase of 6.4 percent in male enrolment while there was an increase of ten percent in female enrolment.
Bole said the figures are expected to increase as effective education policies are being implemented by the Ministry.
