The fire at Eds Bar in Martintar Nadi that destroyed more than seventy percent of the contents in the bar on Sunday night was a result of unattended cooking.
This has been confirmed by National Fire Authority Chief Fire Officer, Tupou Saubulinayau who said that investigations into the fire reveal that the fire started from the kitchen area.
Saubulinayau said heated vapor from the beef frying metal plate which contained oil was ignited by the flared flames from the lit gas stove which ignited the surrounding material, spreading to the rest of the building.
He added that unattended cooking is the third largest cause of fire in the country and such incidents can be avoided by simply being in the kitchen while cooking.
