The World Bank will be sending a team to Fiji later this year to conduct a thorough assessment of the economic situation in the country.

Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry met with World Bank East Asia and Pacific Vice President Frances Adams and explained the steps being taken by the interim government to return Fiji to parliamentary democracy.

Chaudhry called on the Executives of the World Bank to assist in moving Fiji forward and highlighted that this will be achieved through the completion of the consultation process to be undertaken by the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

He invited the bank to assist Fiji in its efforts to attain a satisfactory level of economic growth, thus assuring better living standards for the people of Fiji and stressed that at this critical juncture, we need our development partners to engage constructively to move Fiji forward on the road to good governance.

The Interim Minister revealed that the report to be compiled on the economic situation in Fiji by the World Bank will then be put to the National Council for Building a Better Fiji for consideration.
