There is a need for people to eat more local foods.

These are the sentiment of 90 year old Susan Parkinson, one of the pioneering nutritionist to be sent by the British government in 1950 to work for the South Pacific Health Services as the regional nutritionist.

Parkinson was one of the guest speakers at the Fiji School of Medicine Public lecture on "the History and Development of Nutrition in Fiji and the South Pacific" in celebration of the schools 125th anniversary.

She said from her experiences, nutritional health is better addressed these days with more awareness provided, however people need to play their part in maintaining their health.
