An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck south of the Fiji group at around 12.48 this morning.

The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources confirmed that the earthquake was located at about 385km South Southwest of Doi Island or 565km Southwest of Nukualofa, Tonga.

The earthquake originated at a depth of 670km South Southeast of Suva.

The ministry said those who felt the earthquake and wish to give more information are requested to contact the Mineral Resources Department.

In recent weeks, seismic activity in the area has increased with two other quakes reported in the same vicinity measuring between 4 to 5.5 on the Richter scale.
