An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the local Richter scale occurred in Fiji yesterday around 4.30pm.

The earthquake was located about 320km Southwest of Suva and originated at a depth of 420km below the surface.

According to the Mineral Resources assessment and detection, there were no felt reports in Kadavu as of yesterday afternoon.

It said the area is prone to deep seismic events as it is on the hunter Fracture Zone.
