It has been confirmed that an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale was experienced at 10.46 last night.
The Mineral Resources Seismologist Department said this was a deep inland earthquake with a depth of 150km beneath the earth's surface adding this did not pose any threat.
According to the department, the location of the earthquake was in the Namosi region with some people calling the Ministry saying they experienced the earth shaking last night.
However, the department said they have not received information so far on damages caused by the earthquake.
