Despite Fiji's withdrawal from the Forum Joint working group and the subsequent disbanding of the Elections Donor Coordination Committee, the Justice Ministry remains confident that donor countries will continue to assist Fiji.
Chairman of the Committee Permanent Secretary for Justice Pio Tikoduadua said they will now directly negotiate assistance with the donor countries.
Tikoduadua also revealed that Australia, New Zealand and the EU continue to assist Fiji in holding elections as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Secretary General Kamlesh Sharma said it’s vital for Fiji's interim government to remain engage with the Pacific Islands Forum Joint working group process
Sharma said it's unfortunate that Fiji has decided to withdraw from the working group and the Commonwealth and other members of the international community will continue to support the Pacific Islands Forum in its initiatives to assist Fiji as their special envoy Sir Paul Reeves is part of the commonwealth's ongoing engagement and commitment to assist Fiji in its effort to return to full constitutional and civil democracy.
