The Fiji Australia Business Council said it is deeply concerned about the reported deportation of Fiji Times Publisher Evan Hannah, one of its members and a high profile Australian in Fiji.

In a statement Council President Caz Tebbut Dennis stresses that absolutely no good can come of this and they will be making their views known to the interim government and requesting more information. She said they will assist Hannah in any way they can.

The Local Presidency of the European Union has expressed its deep concern regarding the measures which Fiji Times Publisher Evan Hannah has been subject to.

In a statement this afternoon the EU Council said it also deeply regrets that Hannah was hastily deported in defiance of a court order.

Meanwhile, the National Federation Party Pramod Rae said the abduction, detention and forcible deportation of Evan Hannah is a shameful, despicable and cowardly act.

Rae said Hannah's deportation is another testimony of the fact that Fiji is now being controlled by dictators who are prepared to blatantly disregard the rule of law and resort to the law of the jungle and thuggery to satisfy their greed for power.
