The European Commission has awarded a grant aimed at providing training to audiovisual industry professionals from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

In a statement the EU said the project called "Melanesian beat", has been awarded a grant of just over $364,000, and will be implemented by Transtele CFI, which will set up three training sessions, aimed at audio visual industry professionals in the South Pacific, PNG included.

The training will enable local television teams to put new knowledge into practice, and will give rise to the production of a television SITCOM, which is a genre yet to be created in Oceania.

The program funded by the European Development Fund and implemented by the ACP Films Programme's main goal is to promote the development and structuring of the cinema and audio visual industries of the ACP states, to stimulate better promotion of cultural diversity, the networking of ACP cultural identities and intercultural dialogue.
