Close to 10,000 people living in squatter settlements along the Navua, Lami, Suva and Nausori corridor are working with the Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy on a housing model.
The head of ECREA's Social Economic Justice Program Semiti Qalowasa said they are currently working with families from 45 squatter settlements within this boundary.
Qalowasa added these are families who earn less than $5,000 a year.
Meanwhile, there are claims by an economist that an estimated 11 percent of households in Fiji live in food poverty as they are unable to afford one meal a day as a result of devaluation.
Speaking at a recent public forum, USP Economist Dr. Sunil Kumar made these claims.
However, there is no substantial data available to show that a study or survey was carried out to confirm that 11 percent of households are in food poverty.
Ecumenical Center for Research Education and Advocacy (ECREA) Director Chantell Khan said while they believe some people in Fiji may be in food poverty, the figures do not add up.
